Our History

Our Leadership Team 2011 (L-R) Yvonne & Stephen Cummings | Susan & Mark Greenfield | Suzanne & Steve Atkinson | Carla Buckingham | Laura & David VradenburgHistory of Orangeville Christian Fellowship (Centre Fellowship)
During the early 90’s a number of people from Orangeville were attending the Airport Vineyard Church in Toronto and had been praying about starting a local Vineyard in the town. Stephen & Yvonne Cummings, having moved from Belfast to Canada in 1993, were also attending the Vineyard church. They moved from Mississauga to Hillsburgh in 1994 and started a home group of 12 people, meeting in a local home. During this period, we experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as part of the Toronto Blessing. Sunday morning meetings began in December 1994 in a local school. As we grew, we moved to premises on Townline Road and then Centennial Road in 1996 where we stayed for ten years. In 1998 David and Laura Vradenburg joined the church staff as youth pastors with special responsibility for development of missions.

David moved into the computer business full time, while Laura became our associate pastor. In 2007 we were joined on staff by Carla Buckingham who had responsibility for “Tentmakers” - our Internship program, and became the Youth and Children's Pastor. Throughout this time, our leadership team was praying and planning a new building, The Centre, which would be a place for the community and for the church.  The Centre is now open and we are enjoying our first few months inside this great building that God continues to provide for.

Over the last 5 years our vision and values have crystallized into three main areas:

Community of believers
We choose to emphasize relationship, growth and discipleship. We have a strong value in small groups of believers meeting regularly together for encouragement, support, worship and witness. Our services are informal and interactive. We place a high value on the church being the family of God.

Community of neighbours
We believe we are to take the walls down from the church and make it more accessible to outsiders and seekers. We express this through our small groups, through open events which allow people to get to know us and discover God is good. The design of the new building has been heavily influenced by this vision. It will be a constructed as a community centre, with café, daycare and community rooms and available for local theatre and concerts. It will have lots of glass so that it is more transparent.

Community with a Mission
We promote both foreign and local missions and have actively developed partners in Mexico, Bangladesh, America and Ireland. Each year we send a number of teams on short terms missions to these areas and have two of our congregation on full time mission in Dakar. We are slowly developing the strategies for mission within our local community and encourage everyone to find places to serve in community groups and programs.

We also have strong ties with Christian Fellowship Churchin Ireland whose Pastor Paul Reid serves as a member of our board. We are a daughter church of the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship and are a member of the Friends in Harvest affiliation of Churches.
